Only in the SE accompanied by 150lb ft torque, the LX -EX had 125-130, & 145 lb ft torque. The caprice albeit small HP, had 255 lb ft torque. Ratio wise yes it is still less than the honda.

I was saying that to illustrate how far motors have come is all. But that thought aside, GM’s own 3800 V6 was making 170hp and the 3100 making 160hp. So in that context, 170hp from a 5.0L displacement and 8cyls. does seem rather underwhelming. Some turbo charged 4′s were making almost as much torque. The power was so low for the time because it was an OLD design, as was the 5.7L. Strangely, the 4.3L V8 offered in these cars made 200hp, more than the larger V8s. Didn’t make much sense.

There are lots of reasons. We were just coming out of a low period when car manufacturing is concerned. HP may be low, but was reasonable, torque is more inline w/ displacement. Plus how would you even be able to relate? you were what four or five? what are you comparing this engine to?
