The government will tax us one way or the other. Are BP and Shell jumping on the band wagon and charging us silly prices because the public blame the tax on fuel and forget about the providers.
YES! did you see how much profit they both made first quarter ? ridiculous

Shell and BP have nothing to do with it, it’s the OPEC countries that set the oil price.
They produce the vast majority of oil and it’s a close knit cartel.
They also decide how much oil to produce, so they can keep the high prices up.
But it doesn’t change the fact that the Americans are paying the same for their crude, but a gallon of petrol is less than half what it is here in Britain.
You try to defend the government on here and you’ll be in the minority, I’ve had enough of the greedy M.P. with the 100k pay and 130K expense accounts.

No blame your politicians who kiss and lick the boots of the eco-nuts.
They have blocked domestic companies from drilling and building refineries then they yell and scream at the executives over the price those same politicians are responsible for.
To dovetail Malcolm, OPECs output has been trending lower every year.

Shell and BP take around 5% of the price of a litre of fuel.
The Government takes around 75% of the price of every litre of fuel.
So, how are the fuel companies charging us "silly prices"?

If you look at the profit of the oil companies as a % of their turnover, it is not huge.
Fuel duty plus tax on the total of fuel price and duty (i.e. a tax on the tax!!!!) is the biggest part of the cost of fuel. The more OPEC charges, the more money flows into government coffers.
Here’s a thing: Why do we pay road tax in the UK? We are already paying a fortune in fuel taxes. Since fuel consumption is related to vehicle efficiency, it even fits in with misguided environmental concerns. The more we use roads, the more fuel tax we pay. Why pay the extra £200 -odd per year for the privilege of owning a car. We don’t have to pay for the privilege of owning a washing machine or a camera.
