1966 Mercury Comet “Voyager” station wagon

In the video, you will hear me refer to this as a 1967 model – please ignore, sharp eyed viewer recognized it as a 1966! Here you see Voyager used by Mercury before its use by Plymouth…these names bounced around quite a bit! Edsel had the “Ranger” before it was a Ford compact truck! Edsel had the “Pacer” before it went to AMC!

LOL!….I’ll design a badge and proper papers!
I know what you mean! I think in other circles, it’s called an “intervention”! LOL!
I know a person who’s uncle used a classic Packard to HAUL COAL! Now how’s that! Thanks for the comment! :) Jack

    I’ve seen …
I’ve seen advertisements for woody Comet wagons.I’ve seen more of the ads, than I’ve seen woody Comet wagons.I saw one, everyday for about a week. The owner was using it as a worktruck. This was about four years ago…My wife and I have often wished we were Classic Car Police, and could confiscate cars in need of it.And this woody Comet wagon was in need of a good confiscation.

    Accoring to my …
Accoring to my references, there were 2 series of Voyager wagons in 66..series 202, 7,595 produced…series Capri, 3,880 produced.
All were 4 door models. That’s not a lot of cars, and probably some saw heavy service, and were considered expendable. Thanks for the comment! :) Jack

    I own a 66 Comet …
I own a 66 Comet 2door hard top for almost twenty years, I have never heard of a 66 Comet wagon. I wonder how many were made?
    Very nice car!

  5. raconter1 says:

    Thanks so much! …
Thanks so much! That comet is the bucket seat model, right? Very stylish..remember looking at that car new in the showroom window, Broad St., Phila PA Lincoln Mercury dealer! Looked at a late 62, and they told me they ran out of uphol. fabric, so it was actually the new 63 fabric! How’s that for a bit of trivia! lol

    Thanx fo the …
Thanx fo the comment joh..when the car stylists were enlisted to blend an extra set of lights in the late 50′s, they chose a horizontal theme, emphasizing the width of the car..then, as you say, the trend shifted to a vertical stack, with its emphasis on the height of the car..these were as trendy as the new wraparound windshields of the 50′s!

  8. joh2 says:

    That stacked …
That stacked headlight approach was a trend amongst the big-three at that time! Stylistically there is not too much difference between the Comet and its Ford Fairlane twin… – A Comet wagon (any Comet) would be incredibly rare!

  9. raconter1 says:

    Yeah, and you …
Yeah, and you wouldn’t have the stroke when someone hits it, and you try to replace body panels that either don’t exist anymore, or have to be hand fabricated! LOL

  10. 68ChargerMdM says:

    ya i think high …
ya i think high dollar cars are dumb you could go spend $250,000 or build a 1928 ford model a rat rod out of junk yard parts for $1,000 and get more looks with the rat rod plus the rat rod would be more raw and fun lol

  11. raconter1 says:

    Thanks for the …
Thanks for the comment!…I’ve heard horror stories, but this is really good, or bad depending if you have to spend the money! As I’ve heard before, “if you have to ask how much it costs, you can’t afford it!” LOL

  12. 68ChargerMdM says:

    ya my dads freind …
ya my dads freind had one and when he took it to maintnence after so many miles it cost him $45,000 because he dumped a valve and they had to fly a ferrari technition in and a guy from india with small hands so he could reach in that way to much money for me lol

  13. raconter1 says:

    Yeah, I sure …
Yeah, I sure couldn’t afford to maintain a Ferrari! LOL

  14. 68ChargerMdM says:

    ya sure it didnt …
ya sure it didnt handle as well but thats not what it was built for it was built for staight line performance and that it did i would rather have a pontiac than any other ferrari lol

  15. raconter1 says:

    Right on! Pontiac …
Right on! Pontiac was charting some new territory with all that power in a small car, figured it could use some of the mystique of the Ferrari…too bad it didn’t handle like the Ferrari..too many kids got into trouble with all that speed and non/sports car handling and braking.

  16. 68ChargerMdM says:

    dont forget the big …
dont forget the big one that was thrown around gto was a car by ferrari then pontiac used it for the ledendary muscle car

  17. raconter1 says:

    You are absolutely …
You are absolutely correct! Thank you! Only sharp eyed viewers can protect me from lapsing into error! The 66 grille is horizontally divided, while the 67 appears to be in one piece, as I view it. Thanks again!

  18. cabstronaut says:

    Thats a 66, not a 67
    Thats a 66, not a 67

  19. raconter1 says:

    Yeah, it’s funny …
Yeah, it’s funny how these series names get bounced around…some are enduringly popular and the car company would never let them get away, like Mustang, Corvette…but then there are some there’s no rush to grab…Rambler Marlin, Buick Electra, Chevy Chevette, etc. These colorful names are being replaced by numbers and letters..aargh!

  20. raconter1 says:

    Sure could! that’s …
Sure could! that’s when station wagons ruled! and people weren’t embarrased driving them! LOL

  21. Explorer4x4 says:

Ah yes, I knew of …
Ah yes, I knew of the Plymouth Voyager, Grand Voyager and the Chrysler Voyager (European export), but never the Mercury version. Mercury called their minivans the Villager and Montery, if I remember right.
