EARLY IN 2008, I BOUGHT A LOVELY 1953 CHRYSLER NEW YORKER STATION WAGON THAT THE DEALER SAID WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION AS IT HAD SPENT ALMOST ALL ITS LIFE IN A MUSEUM. WWHEN IT ARRIVED IN THE UK, I DISCOVERED THAT THOUGH THE CAR WAS IN GREAT SHAPE, IT HAD BEEN REASSEMBLED ONLY HAND TIGHT WITH EVEN THE STEERING BOX SLIDING AROUND. THE NEW WIRING LOOM WAS NOT CONNECTED TO MOST ENDS AND THE CENTRE TIE ROD HAD BEEN REPLACED WITH A SCRAP ONE WHICH HAD TO BE REMANUFACTURED. NOW ITR IS NEARING COMPLETION AND IT IS HOPED TO BE ON THE ROAD SOON

Old TV series Sky King had a Chrysler wagon similar to this. His daughter Penny use to drive it. I think these are the best looking wagons. I was going to buy one some 20 years ago. Wonder where that wagon is now… It was full of car parts.

Hemi Wagon,
Well, …
Hemi Wagon,
Well, it looks like we got the same ’53 New Yorker T&C Wagon w/underdash A/C. I just got my rust free Complete one over here in Northern Cali back in Sept 2008 where it sat for some time indoor & out. Working on getting it back on the road. I got a good source for parts, if ya need help. Look forward to talking to ya. Mines white/green with mostly that dark brown original interior. Adam
Hello Chuck.. The …
o Chuck.. The car was really complete, but where they could not find the original parts in putting it back together, they sourced from salvage yard so every bit is as new apart from some odd cases where old worn or incorrect bits are present. In most cases, it does not matter or notice but the main tie rod was shot and as this car was on shorter chassis than sedan, we had to manufacture new one. plus had to check EVERY nut and bolt for tightness. Good car though.
Hi Chris,
It …
Hi Chris,
It looks like a nice solid (complete?) wagon. I’m sorry to hear it was misrepresented by someone on this side of the Atlantic. I can’t wait to see it on the road.

I always love to see Hudson’s restored, Chris!
They were an example of some of the best that
American manufacturers had for sale! Sorry to hear of the trouble you had..it’s so easy to fall into a trap, with this…interminable delays, work not done, even trouble getting the car back! It’s similar, unfortuanely, to some home repair people here in this county!
Take a big deposit to “start work” and then never return! Good luck with the project!
Hey, Chris..I think …
Jack
Hey, Chris..I think you’re absolutely right on that powerflite intro! Chrysler did stuff like that in the middle of the year. Same with Plymouth..for years they were shut out of that semi-auto. tranny, and in 54 they finally got it, called it HyDrive! Then, suddenly in the middle of the year, Powerflite was introduced! So for that model year U had a choice of 4 tranny’s..manual, manual w/overdrive, HyDrive or Powerflite!
Must have been interesting in the service department!
The Hudson is going …
The Hudson is going to be great also, but a real struggle as it has been through the hands of two crooks who took money off me and didn’t perform on the total restoration — but now finally after five years, it is being put back together and hope if we find all the parts and sort out where they all go it will be back cruising in six months or so (or so)
You are spot on …
You are spot on raconter1 – 4 ratio semi auto in 2 shift positions and actually the powerflite came in later in the same year I think. I do have another car (1952 Imperial) with same shift and it is not too bad. Imperial also has the 331 Hemi. This station wagon really is in good condition though and I hope it drives as good as will finally look, but I will have to wait until the centre tie rod has been finally replaced and all bits bolted and thightened up
Amazing car, Chris! …
Jack
Amazing car, Chris! And it has to be rare! You’ve got a hemi, there, and I ume Fluid Drive?? I don’t think Powerflite was available until the following year. Dealers!
As they say, “caveat emptor: let the buyer beware”! Sorry your experience was less than
what it should have been..but anyway, a great car..and of course the HUDSON! Nuff said!
Hi Ward.. Glad you …
Hi Ward.. Glad you like the car…the way things are going in the world…what I probably need is a can of petrol (GAS TO YOU GUYS). The car really is lovely and I am looking forward to getting in on the road at some point in the next few months. .. good to know there is a replacement windscreen avaliable though!!
looks great Chris . …
looks great Chris ….now if you need a new windscreen …I happen to know where there is one!
In the end, you …
In the end, you will have the last laugh because I know that, ultimately, you will have this rare stationwagon exactly as you want it.
Next time you buy stateside, I had better check it for you !
