i want to get a front end rebuild kit for a 1957 Ford Ranch wagon. should i do it myself or take it to a shop?

Friday, February 12th, 2010

I have a 1957 Ford Ranchwagon and the front end pops when i turn or hit a bump. i want to get a total front end rebiuld kit. what is a good price for one and should i do it myself or take it to a shop?

if you price all the parts individually you may be able to rebuild the front end for cheaper than the kit but a kit will have all necessary hardware and instructions. and I would say do it your self it’s actually pretty easy on the old cars and will probably take you about two weekends to get the job done.

help in buying a 2002 or a 2004 volkwagen passat GLX wagon?

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

THEY BOTH LOOK CLEAN AND A FAXCAR THE 2002 HAS 50K MILES AND THE 2004 HAS 80K MILES. WHICH ONE IS BEST THEY ARE .BOTH ARE THE SAME PRICE.

Although the 04 has more miles, I would prefer it to the lower milage 2002. By 2004, many of the electrical and mechanical issues with the vehicle had been addressed, though the front suspension links still remained a weak point.

As the earlier writer has said, you need to have the VW inspected, paying close attention to the steering (possible leaks, worn tie rod ends) and the front suspension (weak and worn control arm links, worn ball joints), plus a check to make sure all the possible recall campaigns have been done. It need not be a dealership, a good independent shop that specializes in VW’s is good too.

I would suggest that you check and see if the service records are available for either car, if one has a complete service history and the car checks out ok, then, I’d pick the car with the service history regardless of which year or milage it is.

Having regular service at the right milage interval is very important to keeping these vehicles on the road with a minimum of trouble. Equally important is having someone who knows the vehicle and can service it knowing all the wierd quirks that can happen to them.

The reason that VW has such a poor reputation among used cars is because many people don’t maintain them according to the factory specs; these are cars that are unforgiving about missing service or even late service intervals.

Hope this helps, a car nut.

Does Porsche make a station wagon model?

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

I am looking to buy a Porsche, probably in Ireland and I would like to know if any of their models (sold in Europe) are stationwagons. I know that there are none here in the States, but then again, alot of top-of-the-line vehicle makers models are not allowed in the states, and if stationwagons are not available, does Porsche make vans?

My price range is between $35K and $50K USD

Thank you in advance for your support

Judging by the speed of porsche covering different segmets of the Automobile market I mean they have sports cars, GT cars, Supercars, SUV’s, and there Panemera Concept which is a 4 door Luxury Sedan due out in somewhere between 2009-2010, a Station wagon might jus be in the pipe, and A porsche Cayenne standard will cos you about $75,000.

Fuel tax is stupidly high in the UK, but shouldn’t the likes of BP or Shell be to blame as well?

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

The government will tax us one way or the other. Are BP and Shell jumping on the band wagon and charging us silly prices because the public blame the tax on fuel and forget about the providers.

YES! did you see how much profit they both made first quarter ? ridiculous

Hi my Mitsubishi Space Wagon is leaking Diesel

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

Hi my Mitsubishi Space Wagon is leaking Diesel anyone know if it will cost much go get fixed the car is a 92 so I am not sure if it’s even worth getting it fixed up but if it’s not too expensive I might get it fixed I went to a mechanic and he just tried to sell me a me car

if anyone had the same problem in Ireland can you please give me a price? thanks

depends where the leak is. if its just a pipe should be easy enough to fix. they tend to leak on the return pipe just behind the engine. also check all fittings in case they have come loose. there’s nothing worse than a mechanic ripping you off for a loose nut!

Should I trade my motor home in for a covered wagon because of gas prices ?

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

The covered wagon should have rubber tires and a good suspension. We all look for comfort… Keep a towel on the front seat beside you in case the horse is flatulent. Oh. and say hell to Hoss for me.

Volkswagon Jetta Wagon TDI vs Honda CRV vs Subaru Forrester?

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

Volkswagon Jetta wagon TDI vs Honda CRV vs Subaru Forrester. Looking for a family vehicle (1 child), with the following in mind: Fuel efficiency, price, repair history, spacious, high safety ratings, good resale value, etc. What would YOU buy and why?

The VW probably has the better MPG because the Honda is higher and the Subaru is AWD. The Jetta is also probably the least expensive. The Honda in my opinion is the best to repair, it isn’t that hard to find parts for a Honda. Honda is also the biggest and more spacious. They are all very safe. Honda’s have a great resale value. So I would get either the Honda because I gave it 3 out of 6 or the Jetta. In your situation though I would get the Jetta.
