can a twin or full size mattress fit into the back of a subaru outback station wagon?

Monday, April 5th, 2010

so i’m gonna be doing alotttt of traveling and camping this year and i thought it would be cool to put a mattress in the back of my car. i was wondering if a twin or full size mattress would fit the back of a subaru outback station wagon with the back seats folded down?

Twin possibly, but squeezed a bit between the wheel well intrusions. Measure between the wheel well intrusions with the seats down flat to be sure.
Full size, now way, sorry.
For very little money you could get a foam pad several inches thick and trim it to size. It would serve quite well as a mattress and would be much easier to store when not needed.

Transmission pan for 97 mercury sable station wagon?

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

I found out that there is a hole in the transmission pan of my 97 mercury station wagon and I was just wondering how much it would cost to get it fixed or replaced.

Shouldn’t cost much. Should be very cheap. All they’ll do is take bolts of your pan, remove the pan, put a new one in. They’ll probably try and get you to change the filter. Which you should if you haven’t in the last 50,000 miles. Now for that service it’s about 90 bucks including parts. Much cheaper just for the pan change. But you should definitely change the filter and the fluid if you haven’t in awhile or ever.

Pretty sure they are on the left hand side of the car near the airbox. has the VIN, engine number and year on a riveted plate.
Not sure where they are on the engine itself but i bet your manual will tell you.
EDIT: err im not a guy, why dont you open your eyes and try to look yourself. I was having a bit of a guess based on the fact ive seen plenty of commodores that do have it there.

Did you or your parents ever have an old fashioned station wagon?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

My dad bought a Pontiac Safari in the seventies. My brother hates station wagons to this day b/c of it. I thought it was cool at the time, but I was a kid. We actually packed 1500 pounds of split firewood into that sucker once. My sister had a wreck it, and there was nothing more than a scratch on it — the other car was totaled. We called it "the tank."

How ’bout you ? Ever had one in the family ? If so, how ’bout a cool story ?

I love, love, love station wagons!!!! I’m serious! I’ve had three, and I’ve only owned seven cars in my life. They’ve all been GM midsizers, a ‘78 Pontiac Lemans, an ‘85 Buick Century and the current one, which is a ‘90 Olds Cutlass Cruiser which I’ve been happily driving since 2000. They’ve all been named Bucky, and it has suited each to a T. None of them has ever stranded me or let me down. I love them immeasurably. I don’t know what I’m going to do when this one dies, besides cry. There is no car in the world that I love as much as I do these particular wagons. If I were suddenly rich I would start seeking them out, all across the country. I’d bring them home and treat them nice and live happily, knowing that I would never truly have to die alone.

Pretty much like this:

Oh and, by the way, it’s a little known fact that station wagons are just pickup trucks in disguise. Can’t you just hear "Redneck Girl" in the background now?

Incidentally, I grew up in VWs, including these gems:

Okay, sorry, I couldn’t help myself . . .

It’s probably what makes wagons look so good . . .

I need the manual or complete the manufacturer’s parts catalogue for a 1985 pontiac parisienne station wagon?

Monday, January 4th, 2010

I own a 1985 ponitac parisienne station wagon and a I need the complete part catalogue with the original manufacturer’s part number, just like what a dealer have. I am trying to restore is car to it’s original shape and form. I have a source where I can order parts but it needs the original manufacturer’s part number. Need help.

that’s going to be a unique find for a unique choice of car to restore.

I would try Ebay or Hemmings….and try Pontiac Dealerships (whats left of them). I have seen auctions for closed dealerships and they even auction off the old books and microfiche.

Also, some aftermarket parts companies have the OEM part number, so you may be able to do a reverse cross reference.

Good luck on this one!

where does the oil go in a 91 mercury station wagon?

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

I checked the oil and its low, I want to replace it but i dont know where it goes.

There is a crankcase oil fill hole on top of one of the valve covers. Look around for a large "wing nut" type opening directly on top of a valve cover.

How to remove the ac evaporator of a 1997 toyota corrola station wagon?

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

links to pictures may help if available.

This is a tough job - I know I did it on my Saturn.

All cars are pretty much the same these days. You need to pull apart enough of the dash to be able to access the HVAC module. The Heat/Vent/Air Conditioner module houses both the evaporator and the heater core. You may need to remove the heater core to get to the evaporator. The evaporator will be plumbed to the AC system with piping. There will be connection(s) at the firewall with o-rings to seal the connection(s). You need to disconnect this connection. If the system is already empty you need not worry about Freon escaping but if the system is just low it should be vacuumed out rather than let the Freon escape into the air. Once disconnected you can remove the evaporator and repair or replace it. Assembly is the reverse.

Just a note: this is a MAJOR job. It took me two days doing it out of my driveway and I took photos so I could remember how much work it was. Why are you looking to remove the evaporator?

Is the new honda insight a sedan or a station wagon?

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

I am so very confused. It looks like it could go either way.

A sedan is a four door car with a trunk.

The Insight is a Hatchback or Wagon. It will be referred to as a hatchback more then a wagon.
