VW Passat sedan/wagon–mechanically sound vehicle or trouble to maintain?

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Calling all mechanics–any history or knowledge of VW Passats, 2004-2006 range, mechanically sound or not? daughter is interested in one…could be sedan, but baby on way and wagon probably better…..too exotic? or able to keep on road with reasonable repair costs?

any car will last long if taken care of like oil changes, sparkplugs, coil, rotor, filter, plugs…but in a VW these cars are wonderfull and fast, and economic, they are very nicely done…but every car has its problems like any other but as long as you take care of the motor that car will be running like a champ….i recommend thse type of car b/c the make says it all…..the bad obout these is that they are very hard to work on because everything is in one place and you have to take other stuff out to take a alternator or simple stuff….man but weve gotoon cars in our shop that come in and some of them sre difective.

Do I need anything else with an exhaust system?

Friday, February 12th, 2010

I am planning on buying an exhaust system for my 2006 WRX wagon. When it says that I am buying an exhaust system, does that mean I need to buy other things to go along with it? Please help?

you will need a muffler if not included in the exhaust system and you will need all the right sized muffler clamps to hold the exhaust system together.

What do you owners of 2006 Subaru 2.5i Outback Wagons like most and least about your cars?

1. I like the fact that it gets driven a LOT and has 136,000 miles on it.
2. i like that It has only had one problem : a leaking crankshaft seal on the engine (fixed for $400)
3. It can drive thru LOTS of mud and lots of snow and ice, no problem
4. I like that it has high ground clearance
5. I like the safe feeling i get when i drive it
6.i like that its a Top safety pick by the IIHS
7. I like that it gets 31.8 on highway trips ( even though the EPA says it should only get 28mpg)
8. I like how easy it is to maintain it ( i do the maintanence myself)
9.I like that you can fit TONS of crap in the back
10. I like that cool fuel economy display
11. I like pretty much everything about the car.

Most of all i like the perfect combination of durability and comfort the car brings, while being able to drive where no wagon should ever go, and get the fuel economy of smaller front wheel drive cars.

Also, my front brakes lasted until 93,000 miles… still have the original back brakes.

IF there was anything i would wish for on the car, it would be for a little more power, but its not a big deal, the power is adequate the way it is.

My first day of college is Thu. Sept 6th..any advice?

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

Hi all!So my first day of college is this thursday and I just wanted to ask for advice/pointers, what should I bring with me(pen, folder?etc),what to expect etc. I graduated high school in 2006 but took the past year "off" so am back on the wagon :o)

Also, is college anything like high school? I want to be more outgoing and make friends because although I did have friends in HS, most were more like acquaintances than anything sooo..any advice on that too would be great! Thanks in advance. :o)
Thanks for all your answers so far, very helpful, oh and I will be in community college my first two years :o)

Living at home still.

Congratulations on continuing your education. Bring paper and writing tool and your books. The bookstore can tell you what books to get by looking at your schedule.

College is really nothing like high school, your are paying for the privilege of being there so if you mess up, you will suffer the consequences. There is little competition in college so all that HS stuff is gone. Most people are very mature there. You will meet many different people and you can be anyone you want to be. Join some of the organizations on campus that you find interesting and speak to as many people in class as you can. You will certainly find someone you have things in common with. Since everyone is at college voluntarily, people are more serious about what they are doing (unless pressured by parents). For instance, there is rarely a dress code, but people for the most part will dress appropriately. This would not be the case in high school! There is no punishment in college for things such as talking in class, but this does not happen often. I think you will like it–You get what you put into it.

Attend every class, bring paper and pencil with you, keep a calendar of important dates, take notes, sit near the front, ask the instructor if in doubt about anything, discuss the work with classmates, do any homework (even if not graded), study for tests, listen, and always always do any extra credit if it is offered!

2006 Suzuki Aerio Premium (Wagon) 54K miles.?

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

We just bought a 2006 Suzuki Aerio Premium with 54K miles on it. The car had been "Certified Pre-Owned" but we were paying cash and talked him down on price quite a bit to the point where the 4 months/4Kmiles warranty was not included. Not really concerned about that because 4 months isn’t that long.
We still have the option to purchase a 3 year/ 36K mile "premium" warranty for around $1,600 should we do it?
Also, the manufacturers powertrain warranty is still in effect until 100K miles.
your thoughts on the Aerio and the warranty?

just base you decisions on the estimated miles you plan to drive.

Do you like your 2006 Subaru Outback wagon? Any problems?

It has been reliable no problems. Not only that we get strangers asking us what make it is and complimenting us on its appearance. I have never had a car that strangers ask me about.

2006 Subaru impreza wagon 18,00 miles clean?

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

I’m the only driver.I’m wondering what it’s worth? I was thinking of selling it.

$11,500 assuming good tires and a clear title.

easy to sell?

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

we have an old suzuki wagon r 2001, the engines bust, (seized up) how easy would it be to sell it 2nd hand, if we get a cheape 2nd hand engine for it.

cos it hasnt had a mot since 2006 or service or tax etc for ages cos its been off the road, realistically would anyone buy it? and how much?

would we need to take it to a garage to make sure there was nothing else wrong with it before selling it?
would it be worth it?

help

Might be less hassle, and expense just to tow it to a scrap yard

you will get £150 for it, less the rubber tyres

It will need brake pipes etc for MOT ….

I dont think you will get many buyers unless they want some panels or donor vehicle ?

Try a free ad in local paper ? another week wont hurt it ?

who could tell me how i could pimp my ride?

Friday, November 6th, 2009

Gday, I have recently bought my first car ever (I am 17) and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions to pimp my ride..what could I do?? neons, type of sound system, stickers etc.? My car is a Lancer Wagon ES (silver) link: back of car "http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0c/2006-2008_Mitsubishi_Lancer_(CH_MY07)_ES_station_wagon_01.jpg"

Man, just keep your car the way it is. No one likes a doof-doof douchebag with loud music and scorch marks on the back of your bumper from your overly-large exhaust. Think of other ways you could spend your money. How about a samurai sword. Chicks dig katanas man, hang one on your wall you’ll be sending out the right message: "Yeah he’s got a sensible car, he must be alrigh-OH SWEET JESUS HE’S GOT A SAMURAI SWORD PLEASE TAKE ME NOW!!!!!111!!1!!"

is the 2002-2006 subaru wrx sedan or wagon considered a sports wagon?

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

hi im 16 and im trying to get a 02-04 subaru wrx sedan but still really want the wagon over it, but are they considered sports cars? and what would you imagine the insurance to be for me a 16 year old male who lives in california owning this type of car? Help please because my parents need to know how the insurance would be for me to drive this awesome car.
oh and im also around a A-B+ student. i have over a 3.6 GPA

Subaru WRX is a sports car. The Wagon is a sport wagon.

For the insurance, ask your parents to buy the car, with their name(s) under it and you drive it. Or have your name put it under their policy to save up a lot more money.

And also, when you drive a WRX, no need to ’show off’ or being say you are an honor student. A good student usually no need to drive an expensive car because they know how to earn it and get one for themselves. But for sure your GPA will help the discount for the insurance…(because I got around 15% off for the similar points).

Just curious, where you going for the college?
