i have just got my license and bought a 95 liberty wagon awd and want to try some drifting and burnouts etc. in it . i was just wondering what damage i could do to the engine or awd system or any other parts of the car as i don’t know how many kms it has or how hard it has really been driven by the last owner.
also any tips on how to get it spinning or drifting tip would be nice.
cheers.
Well, everyone here seems to be of similar mind: you’ll damage differentials, eat throuh tires, empty your wallet, etc., etc. I’ll add two more items: you’ll get tickets for "exhibition driving" if you do it on the public streets, and you’re bound to run into something eventually, in which case you’ll do suspension, body, and possibly human body damage. Get smart — don’t do any "drifting and burnouts" until you’ve had time to really learn to drive your car. That will take you most of a lifetime.

The greatest risk here for damage is gastrointestinal. People will laugh so hard their stomachs will hurt.

You should prob. rethink using your daily car as a stunt vehicle. things will inevitably go wrong when you push something to its limits i.e drifting. i would have started out with a rear wheel drive as a learner for drifting. you are going to be putting your engine through a great deal of strain so i wouldn’t recommend it unless you are 100% sure the engine is strong and tuned properly. your struts, suspension and brakes are going to go through hell and back so unless those are new i wouldn’t try it. you need special tires…um the list goes on. you should do some more research on drifting forums before you hit the streets. you sound un educated in the area of discussion and focus on the research about getting AWD cars to do burnouts…..
Moral of the story…. DRIVE YOUR CAR NORMAL!!!!!!!

AWD systems in general are relatively fragile and unforgiving of abuse. (Notice you ask what damage, not what good, could come of it.) Subarus in particular had a problem with the center transmission locking up, a condition known as "torque bind," that was not corrected until recent models. Caused by excessively tight tolerances, it makes the AWD system even more susceptible to abuse.
A 1995 Liberty is not worth repairing from the damage to the AWD system you could expect. Seriously, you should forget the idea. Now that you have a license you should concentrate on how to drive right, not how to drive wrong.

The chances of you, without any prior knowledge of how to drift, being able to drift an all-wheel-drive vehicle in the first place? Slim. Don’t bloody worry about what repercussions are going to come about from drifting, just don’t drift for crying out loud! I mean do you really want to risk losing your license after you just got it?

you ll break the differentials. if you got the money to keep replacing the parts then who am i to say you shouldn’t do it. but if money is tight, dont do it.

I’m a long time Subaru and Porsche owner, a track guy, and a mechanical engineer. That’s me and my 2005 Porsche 911 Turbo S … just racing in the rain — on a real race course, of course.
I am wondering if you can really do a burn out on the OE liberty unless the LSD is not equipped. Your car seemed to be the turbo charged, if the LSD is not equipped, you can do a burn out easily…
The drift will not do much damages, but remembered your car is not roll over resistance, especially the wagon type. Unless the previous owner had adjust the height and mod the car through out.
The AWD, to drift it, you probably need a good e-brake a must and a slick tires. Other wise, it will just shaked up the car without much. Also, turn off the TCS traction control system if you have one in your car.
