Red Wagon – Work – Physics?

A little red wagon with mass 7.00 kg moves in a straight line on a frictionless horizontal surface. It has an initial speed of 4.00 m/s and then is pushed 3.0 m in the direction of the initial velocity by a force with a magnitude of 10.0 N.

a) Use the work-energy theorem to calculate the wagon’s final speed.

b) Calculate the acceleration produced by the force. Use this acceleration to calculate the wagon’s final speed. Compare this result to that calculated in part (a)

(a) The work done by the applied force over the 3.00m distance is:

W = FΔx
= (10.0N)(3.00m)
= 30.0J

The work-energy theorem says that the net work done on an object is equal to the change in that object’s kinetic energy. Since the problem gives no other forces other than the 10.0N force acting on the wagon, then the net work done is 30.0J. The final velocity can now be found:

ΣW = 0.5mv² – 0.5mv₀²
v = √[(2ΣW + mv₀²) / m]
= √[{2(30.0J) + (7.00kg)(4.00m/s)²} / 7.00kg]
= 4.96m/s

(b) Newton’s 2nd law gives the acceleration of the wagon as:

ΣF = ma
a = ΣF / m
= 10.0N / 7.00kg
= 1.43m/s²

The wagon’s final speed by kinematics is:

v² = v₀² + 2aΔx
v = √[(4.00m/s)² + 2(1.43m/s²)(3.00m)]
= 4.96m/s

Exactly the same! Hope this helps.

Where is the power antenna on older Volvo wagons?

I know the older sedans had power antennas, but do the older wagons have power antennas or where are the antennas for the wagons?

left side of roof edge near rear of car. the power unit for said antenna is usually in front of spare tire.
later model wagons have antenna integrated with left rear side glass or a non power antenna on the left front windshield post [A-pillar]
[this certainly could be reversed on right hand drive cars]

Determine the speed of the two wagons immediately after they stick together?

The wagon and mass continue moving until reaching another frictionless wagon of mass 15.0 kg at point B. This wagon is attached to a spring of negligible mass which has a spring constant of 250 N/m. The other end of the spring is fixed to the wall. Upon impact, the two wagons stick together ad compress the spring.

This problem is missing some information. Where does the mass come into play? The first part of your "question" says that the wagon and mass "continues" moving, implying that something happened before it.

Can you edit the question please?

Are radio flyer wagons allowed on the Fire Island, NY ferries?

I know you can rent them on the island but we are going to be bringing lots of stuff (pack n play, wedding clothes, stroller, oh yeah and a baby). The website says "large" wagons are not allowed but it does not say what constitutes a large wagon. So we want to bring a plastic radio flyer wagon from Long Island.

contact the ferry company

Bringing my 2 yr old’s red wagon on a plane?

Would like to bring my son’s radio flyer wagon in place of a stroller. Was hoping to be able to pull him through the airport terminals in it and also have it stowed underneath the plane with the strollers when we board. Does anyone know if this is allowed? We’re flying Continental. I’ll call the airline but just thought I’d ask here first.

I would suggest you bring a stroller. It will be much easier for you to push him in a stroller then a wagon. If you really want a wagon i would suggest you contact your Continental to be safe and see if they will charge you extra and also the airport your going to be in to see if they allow wagons.

Did you have a "Little Red Wagon", when a child?

Ours was blue, because every family had one. Great fun.
My brother painted it blue.

Ours was red, I didn’t know they also made blue ones, I would’ve wanted a blue one.
My brother used to give me and my doll du jour rides around the neighborhood.
Isn’t it odd how we were delighted with such simple toys?

decorating a red wagon for st.pattys day parade?? Please help with ideas!!?

I need some help yall!! in our small community we are having a small parade and i was wanting to do a st patty’s day theme and decorate our 15 month old daughters lil red wagon as a float…any ideas would be appreciated!!!! was thinking the theme would be something like mommies lucky charm…

Good call Smokey. St. Paddy. Maybe you could fold a green table cloth over it, so it doesn’t show much of the red. Then tape green pin wheels to it, with some streamers, shamrocks, pictures of leprechauns, and dress them in green as well. Hope this helps.
