is $4800 a good price for a 2002 subaru outback wagon with 175,000 miles?

As long as it isn’t rusted to hell but I think you can find a better deal. If it is a 6 cylinder and has been properly maintained, then go for it. If it is a 4 cylinder, then make sure you don’t have to repair it extensively. The things to look out for are the a/c compressor (ridiculously expensive if it doesn’t work), cv axles, exhaust (rusty) wheel bearings (noisy), awd performance (works and lsd is not burned out - if you drive only on flat dry roads, don’t worry too much about this), O2 sensors (expensive because they are a special type), catalytic converter (only necessary to fix in emission states), and maintenance services: trans oil, diff oil, brakes, tires etc. These repairs will break your wallet and the car won’t drive right if you have issues in these areas. Ask questions but most Subaru owners take care of their cars.

Can anyone PLEASE help me?!?!?

June 7th, 2010

Hello all, I’m hoping my good intentions are not backfiring…

Long story short: My friend Stuart fell into a bit of trouble. His wife went kind of crazy and filed for divorce behind his back, and kicked him out. He was living out of a van in Huntington Beach, and then he simultaneously wrecked it AND got a DUI (his first - he fell off the wagon after several years of sobriety). He went to a shelter/sober living home which was not really a good place for him because of the way it was run, it was a non-medical sober living place that theoretically doesn’t exist because it has no medical affiliation, and it is more of a place for meth-heads and other types of addicts, and they had a 10-day limit in which you could stay… so now, with no wheels, no place to live, and no means of income, he was going to use the last of his credit card and get a hotel room and a bottle of whiskey and take a whole bottle of vicodin… you get the idea.

I got a phone call from a mutual friend of ours who lives in Colorado explaining all of this. He has no family; his mother has alzheimers, and he has an estranged brother who will not let him stay at their HUGE home in Fullerton, so my one bedroom apartment in North Hollywood was his only option other than suicide. I went down to Costa Mesa (where the shelter was) and got him and his few belongings and he is now camping out on my couch in my living room.

I have no problem with him staying here as long as he needs to, but he sees the entire situation as hopeless and needs a little help. He’s looking for work, he has extensive experience in the film industry, but without a reliable means of transportation he has a very bleak outlook on the situation.

I guess my question ultimately is: given the DUI and debt (around $7K or so, as I’m led to understand) does anyone know of any options that will not lead to him killing himself and/or continually getting financially screwed? Are there employment agencies within Los Angeles that cater specifically to those who have a "criminal" record? Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you so much.
Depwill, thank you :) and I have already solicited the help of the mutual friend who is keeping contact with both myself and Stuart, though the long-distance thing sort of keeps it limited. I have also consulted the Suicide Hotline here in California and they gave me some valuable info for other resources I can utilize (211, for instance) but I was just looking for someone who has maybe dealt with a similar situation. Thank you so much for the compliment though, and yes, I will be sure to take care of myself too.

First, you are like ‘heaven-sent angel’ of a friend. You went out of the way to help a friend armed with only details of him through a call from a mututal friend. You took him into your home and let him camped in your living room as long as he needs. You put aside the risks and repercusions that may arise from this situation. You are living alone in your one-bedroom apartment and having a male friend camped in your living room.

Now you are worried about how to get him to get up to survive. Aren’t you putting yourself into this too deeply? I am really concerned for you. You have done more than any friend would have done without thinking what may arise. You are so concerned that he may take his life and have become too vulnerable and too generous. I seriously think you should not handle this alone. Rope in that mutual friend who called you about this friend, to help. him. You have done more than anyone would have. Better still rope in other friends of his to help, especially male friends.

Take good care of yourself too,
Depwill

Well I jumped on the band wagon so to speak and said - ‘aww love you too :) xxx’
She text back - ‘:) xxxxxxx’
Then the convasation went on until 2am. She used smily faces all the time and always said I love you. ( been the guy I kept saying nah I love you more <3 and playing with her)

—–We both have said we loved each other before, just there was a falling out but we sorted that –
She is coming to see my in a comedy show and she talks about going out, snuggling ect.. all the time

Its my birthday shortly and im throwning a party + a beach party after the prom, we are both going as a couple.
Does she want to go out with me? - I know this is obvious but just to clarify
And how could I ask her to be my gf?? like really sweetly

Say to her ‘you obviously like me, but I get the impression you want to be more then just mates, because I feel the same way too’
Good luck

Am I a "Rich Kid" What clique would u guys label me as?

May 27th, 2010

People always tell me im sooo rich, and while some people may take it as a compliment, it sorta makes me feel uncomfortable. Do not get me wrong, i c people on here all time asking "Am I rich?’ and just want everyone to know what kind of stuff they have and the fact they can flaunt there money. THAT is not my intention. Material things do not mean that much to me, i just want to get peoples opinions. Ill tell u guys a little about myself i guess…….
My father is a senior VP for a major cosmetics industry and has provided everything for my mother and myself. My mother is a stay at home mom. My house is listed for 1.15 million and is on a acre of property. My father bought my mom a 2006 Mercedes E-500 wagon (new at the time) and bought himself a 2009 Mercedes E320 Bluetec SUV. He leased me a 2008 Audi A4 S-line (new at the time, purchased before his suv, drove for 1 year and then gave it to me). I like wearing lacoste, diesel and puma but i also love unique things, stuff no one else really knows about, like Kid Robot, and of course Urban Outfitters graphic tee’s. Living on the true Jersey Shore, we belong to a beach club, membership only. Ohh important note, I am an only child… except for our 200 lb. Newfoundland (purebred). I just want some feed back about what u guys would label me as, "i.e. prep, rich kid,… whatever" im really not looking to flaunt my stuff, and if i gave that impression im really sorry, i just want to know which clique i would fit in. THANX
HAHAHA ohhh god this is put under the GLBT column…. haha not done on purpose people!! i think it saw the word clique and label and it just threw it under there… this is just a general social question… not to b taken any further
not that i have a problem with that… hey if u guys are B LOUD AND PROUD
okay, so ive read the first few and so far there is some great feedback. Now im going to mention that I WORK. I worked like a dog as a cabana boy at that beach club i go to the first year we went there. Now i’m a returning life guard, watching over the largest salt water pool on the East Coast. I made of 3,000 dollars and worked 5 days a week Any1 care to change there answer?
Sooo apparently im classless? okay cool, i guess people know me that well to say im classless, who are u Luann de Lesseps? I have said NOTHING to lead u to believe im classless, i said material things dont really matter to me because they don’t, i happen to be able to afford some nicer things but if they were gone tomorrow it wouldnt make a bit of difference. I would still have my family, my friends and people who love me. Money doesn’t buy happiness and it sure cant buy u class, so next time u want to lecture someone, think before u speak

You asked this in the qwer forum… something you want to tell us?

To the person with the story way below me:
You were given an opportunity in the business to work your way up just because of your family. I have respect for not taking a penny from them, but you could have screwed up huge and not been fired… just use that as one example out of the dozens I could give you… would your father really just let you land on the street?

Radio Flyer Comfort Wagon?

May 24th, 2010

I bought this wagon for my sons first birthday, just yesterday received it, and have not yet put is together & don’t plan on it until next month when his birthday & party is. I have read alot of reviews that were good but never have i read a con to the wagon, does anyone have any to tell me and another thing i cant find anywhere about whether or not that handle for the wagon folds under or in or what?? Hopefully its not standing straight up..

It folds under the wagon for storage. We only fold it under when it’s in the car though.
It’s great! My 5 year old got one for his 1st birthday and it’s one of the best toddler/ preschooler items we’ve owned.

Are there any station wagons that will sit 8?

May 21st, 2010

I need a vehicle that will seat 8 people. I know some minivans and SUVs do but I would love to drive something that doesn’t look like either one.

Get a Subaru Outback.

If you are buying new, you may be able to order one with a bench front seat and two dickie seats in the back. Finding a used one will be difficult, but I have seen them around.

How should I decide if I should get a 2007 Toyota Matrix, Honda Fit, or 2006 Subaru Legacy Wagon ?

May 15th, 2010

I live in Rawdon, a mountainous town one hour from Montreal. I need cheap fuel economy because of the drive into the city. Im a musician and cook , so I carry stuff in the back so need a hatchback, and may sometimes need to crash out in the back.. I used to own a Dodge Caravan but I blew the motor. Im thinking if I ever move from this little mountain that I live on, I will either need to rent a truck or else have a vehiicle with a hook or ball joint on it. I have tried the Subaru Legacy Wagon, and I could see with its all wheel drive, it could pull a trailer easily, but the gas mileage would be the least of the three. . I have heard that you lose the warranty on the Honda Fit if you try to pull something. I am not sure but I am guessing that maybe the Matrix might be able to pull a small trailer not going to fast. Im trying to add up all the considerations. Maybe the becausewillIthinkre costly in parts to fix than the Toyota and Honda ? Is it worth buying a vehicle because you think you might use it once a year oing fromy few years to help you move ? The Subaru wont give as good a gas mileage as the other two goingfrom the rural town to the city, but maybe the Subaru has more space than both the Matrix and the Honda. What I cant see now are the reapair bills down the road and what will be the least expensive to maintain. The Honda I saw had only 43, 000 clicks, the Matrix about double and the Subarus were 75,000 kms and 104,000 kms . They all are going for around $ 10,000. I still need to test drive the Matrix to get a feel for it.. It seems difficult to get the gas mileage, the space, pulling power, and cheap repairs all in one vehicle.. The Honda will be $ 478 to insure both ways, but Ill have to check tomorrow for the other insurances. The Subaru had a CD player but the Honda had MP3 and the Toyota probably does too. Please share your opinions with me on these choices. I am having a hard time making up my mind, but I cant afford to wait much longer because I am off a country road, far from the closest town, and not very functional to go anywhere or do anything.

I have a 97 legacy and am 6 feet tall. With the rear seats folded down I cannot stretch out fully when lying down in the back to sleep, but I almost can and it is quite comfortable with a pad. There is a lot of room back there. Sometimes I sleep with my mountain bike back there. If you need the room for what you do then there’s no choice, but if you can get around not having all that room then the fuel economy is another good factor. My mom has a 07 Fit which has a relatively small trunk. It fits exactly four tires, so is not too small and the Fit is noted for having a great system of folding down and up the back and front passenger seats. It’s clever, so it might just work for you. The sleeping would be very cramped. I would not want to do it. I prefer the drive of any Subaru over a Fit. I live in Calgary and do lots of driving in the mountains in the winter and the AWD puts it in another class over front-wheel drives. Towing isn’t that great on a 2.2L Subaru (137hp) but if you’re not in a rush it will do fine. I can feel the difference in power with having just one fat friend as a passenger. I don’t know about towing with the Fit or anything about the Matrix. My Legacy gets between 7.9L/100km highway (110km/h) and 11.5L/100km city (abusive zipping around) and averages 10L/100km.
